Why I Do What I Do
Some bars of soap struck me as too fragrant, others too large or awkward to hold onto, while some had too much ‘stuff’ like glitter and slabs of icing stuck to them….I just wanted to make a natural, lathery, pleasant smelling, and comfortable-to-tumble-in-your-hands bar of soap that cleansed well.
All-Natural Handmade Bar Soap - Free Love Valley Soaps - Pond

Hello and welcome to Free Love Valley Soaps!

In my very first blog to you, I’d like to introduce myself. My name is Wendy and I have always been fascinated by the diverse beauty, quality and function of soaps. The question as to how soap was even made and how soap makers achieve the subtle to rich aromas in their soaps made me curious. If I was vacationing, soap purchased from various destinations was always easy to tuck away in my suitcase as a little gift for a friend or loved one, and the fun and fascination grew…as did the interest to give soap making a try!

Plus, the importance of keeping the ingredients in my soaps free of artificial colors and synthetic detergents was a key objective from the start. Using natural botanical ingredients that had a pleasing ‘ahhhhhhh’ factor after smelling them, such as 100% pure essential oils like Lavender, Rosemary, Orange, Lemongrass and Eucalyptus, was also a big motivator.

The name ‘Free Love Valley Soaps’, comes from the name of a valley in northern Chester County Pennsylvania where I live. ‘Free Love Valley’ was the name given to the valley in the mid-1800s due to the promiscuous behavior of some of its early inhabitants. Living in this beautiful valley with my husband, cat, and various critters that roam through the property on a daily basis, reminds me to keep each day as pure and natural as possible, and to pass that along to you in a lovingly handcrafted bar of soap.

My objective with future blogs, is to keep you informed and connected with the goings-on at Free Love Valley Soaps. To share tips, to have fun sharing stories, and to post upcoming events and web links that may be of interest to you regarding soap making and cycling.   Yes, bicycling. In the ‘About’ section on our Homepage you can read about our ‘Mission’ and passion for our ‘Soap-Up for Cyclists’ initiative.
